   My laboratory at UIC contains approximately 1250 sq. ft. of research space and includes 6 chemistry fume hoods and a separate clean room with two biosafety cabinets and all necessary equipment for mammalian and bacterial cell culture (centrifuges, light microscope, cell counter, CO2 incubators, etc.). 

   For synthetic medicinal chemistry, we have three Buchi rotary evaporators, a Biotage initiator microwave synthesizer with robot 8, a Biotage Isolera automated chromatography system, and a Gilson HPLC with UV detection. We also have an Agilent 1260 HPLC with high-throughput autosampler and diode array detector and single quad 6120B mass spectrometer with electrospray ionization.

For high-throughput screening, we have a Molecular Devices Image Xpress Micro XLS widefield HCS fluorescence microscope with additional options for phase contrast imaging and environmental control, a SpectraMax i3x multimode (absorbance, fluorescence, luminescence) microplate reader, and a Thermo Valet HTS Robot with barcode reader for transfer of microplates to plate reader, HCS microscope, or between the two instruments for multiplexed readings. For liquid handling, we have a Beckman Coulter Biomek NXP liquid handler with a 96-channel pipet head and custom fit pin tool to accurately transfer compound solutions in DMSO and a BioTek MultiFlo FX microplate dispenser and washer with a large bore cassette for plating cells and an additional cassette for reagent addition. We also have an Axygen PlateMax thermal microplate/PCR plate sealer, a Techne PrimePro48 real time thermal cycler with high resolution melt capabilities for SNP detection, thermal shift assays, and qPCR with four color multiplexing, as well as a BioRad T100 thermal cycler for routine PCR. MetaXpress and Acuity Xpress are available for visualization and analysis of HTS and HCS data, and Analytical Studio Review is available for visualization and analysis of high-throughput LC/MS data. A dedicated, custom analytical computer with a hecta-core processor and two terabyte RAID configuration with room for additional storage space is available for all analytical applications in the lab.
